I Can't Get Excited For an RTX 3080 12GB, Even If Nvidia Announces One Tomorrow
I can’t get excited for an RTX 3080 12GB, even if Nvidia announces tomorrow.
In the midst of GPU shortage the rumoured card is reportedly being announced tomorrow.
Nvidia is planning to bolster the memory capacity on some of its RTX 30-series cards, a rumour that just won’t quit.
Rumours have existed since 2020 and even reared their head again in December.
According to WCCFTech, Nvidia could be planning to make moves.
11 January announcement date for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 12GB, WCCFTech claims to have spoken to sources that relayed.
It might be released before the RTX 3050 and RTX 3090 Ti.
This graphics card would not only increase memory capacity but also incorporate a wide memory bus.
CUDA Core counts could increase from 8,704 to 8960 further reported.
This would put the RTX 3080 12GB’s TDP a little bit closer to RTX 3080 Ti reportedly.
There are two spare pads for memory chips on the RTX 3080 10GB so these improvements are indeed possible.
These upgrades would result in just a marginal performance improvement over the 10GB RTX 3080.
From price and performance wise I’m not convinced what this card can achieve from a customer’s point of view.
