Mad Preacher in Red Dead Redemption 2: Explained

Before getting into his dialogues, let's focus on who he's inspired by. In the game files, he's called John, The Baptising Madman, it is a reference to John The Baptist, he was a preacher. Just like he is, he also lived in the wilderness and wore worn out clothes.

John, The Baptist was baptizing people in rivers, that's why you can only find the mad preacher standing in rivers. The preacher desperately wants to know the reason for his existence.

The preacher refers to God as he and they, he is reference to Sam Houser, he's the president of Rockstar and the main creator of its games. They refers to all the other developers who worked on RDR2, the preacher says that they come for him.

Even though the preacher was given the whole world, he still wants to know the purpose of his creation, That's why he says he's greedy, because no other character wants to know their purppose as badly as the does.

The preacher wonders about his existence just like people do in the real world. The preacher became too self aware, he started noticing that he's in a video game, It's a cool and unique way to breaking the fourth wall.
