It is a reference to Ichabod crane from the legend of sleepy hollow. At the end of the short story by Washington irving, the headless horseman throws his head at Ichabod crane's face with a huge impact.

That's why one of the bodies is missing the head.

While the other one has it face smasher, it’s not the only reference to Washington irving stories in the game. There's also an obvious nod to one of this stories called 'Rip Van Winkle".
