Grand Theft Auto III
This is the first time we can see license in GTA series.
The license plates in GTA III are static textures. Although the numbers and letters are unclear, it is said that it includes "LC R29".

License plates in GTA Vice City are also blurred, But it is similar to Florida license plate (1979-1986/1991-1997)

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories
In LCS, license plates includes LC prefix (which stands for liberty city) followed by random 4-digit numbers.
Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories
Same as LCS, VCS license plates include VC prefix (which stands for Vice City) followed by random 4-digit numbers.
Grand Theft Auto 4
There's nothing much to say about the license plates on GTA 4. All plates say "Liberty City".
Grand Theft Auto 5
There are 8 random characters on each plate, the pattern is two numbers, followed by three letters and three numbers.
San Andreas: Vehicles in San Andreas (Most common type).
SA Exempt: On emergency and law enforcement vehicles.
Yankton: North Yankton (Snowy vehicles).
Los Santos customs can modify the plate with different colours and fonts!
Protafonists on GTA 5 have their own (custom) license plates.
