Toshiba to Release 26TB HDDs this Year, 30TB to Come Later

Toshiba will release 26TB HDDs this year.

PC storage is more demanding than ever.

As a kid I never dreamed I’d fill a single 1TB HDD and now its too small to be worth taking up the space in my tower.

They have laid out its roadmap for the future of HDDs.

A press release outlines the company’s vision for the next five years.

They want to release a 26TB HDD in about 4 months and a 30TB drive in 2023.

They want to release a 40TB or more drive in five years.

Currently they are capped out at 18TB.

First they will make a 20TB drive.

The difference will be that this will install an extra platter bringing the count from 9 to 10 from the previous 18TB model.

The 26TB HDD will use a new microwave assisted switching technology.
