What is the Mayor of Strawberry's Secret in Red Dead Redemption 2?

RDR2 is filled with many mysteries, but it's the minor ones that make the game truly immersive. If you've been to Strawberry you've probably met the mayor of the town, he makes three different speeches to the people of Strawberry.

The mayor keeps a secret from the past.

The mayor ran away from Frinceton for an unknown reason, he claims that he ran away because his family was unkind to his wife.

Some townsfolk believe that he keeps his wife locked up in his house but none of these stories are true. If you loot Mayor Timmins, you will find a letter from his sister Belinda.

She goes on about how he never writes her. At the end of the letter, she mentions that the mayor never married, the reason why the mayor lied about having a wife is because he's secretly gay. When he was at Princeton, he fell in love with his colleague.

He ran away him to Strawberry. Some of the townsfolk confirm this theory, the mayor married a man.

So who's the professor who ran away with the mayor? The mayor's lover is actually the clerk at the welcome center.

He's the only person in Strawberry who speaks very fond of Timmins. The clerk also mentions that it was the mayor who convinced him to move here.

That's why the mayor always hangs around the welcome center.
