Combat is turn-based, but you can gain an advantage by breaking an enemy’s defense before the fight begins. Enemy defenses can only be broken using elements that are stronger than their own.
How Do Techniques Function?
Before entering combat, you can use your character’s technique in the overworld to gain an advantage. Each character’s technique is different, so you must choose carefully before a fight. Using an element that is effective against the enemy will give the best results.
The Significance of Speed
You will see a small bar that shows an enemy’s weakness. Once a battle begins, either by you initiating it or the enemy approaching you, the combat flow becomes easier to manage.
Your turn order is based on speed. If your speed is higher, you will attack before the enemy. Because of this, speed stats play an important role. If the enemy is faster, they may attack first, leaving you to rely on your basic combat abilities.
Why Is Teamwork Valuable?
Teamwork plays a major role in the game. Strong support characters paired with damage dealers are essential. There are seven elements and different paths for characters. Each element represents the type of damage a character deals. For example, a fire-type character deals fire damage, such as Himeko in Honkai Star Rail.

Paths represent planned roles for characters. For example, tanks focus on protection. They absorb damage to keep their teammates safe.
Planned Roles and DPS
The Hunt path focuses on single-target DPS and high speed, similar to assassins. These characters deal heavy damage but have low defense, making them fragile. Because of this, pairing them with tanks or support characters is recommended.
Nihility Never Disappoints You
Nihility characters specialize in debuffs that weaken enemies by reducing their defenses and attack power. While their support abilities are limited, their debuffs are often enough to control battles. Some characters can also apply status effects like freezing or shocking enemies, dealing continuous damage.
The Associations of Characters
Characters are also connected through factions. For example, March 7th and Himeko belong to the Astral Express, while Kafka is part of the Stellaron Hunters. This system is similar to regions in Genshin Impact, where characters belong to specific areas.
How to Get Free Characters?
Several characters can be obtained for free through the gacha system. Players who registered before launch may receive additional free characters. The game includes 4-star and 5-star characters, and summons use Star Rail Passes. There are standard and limited banners, similar to Genshin Impact.
The Passes and Their Perks
Stellar Jade is the main currency used to obtain passes. You can earn it through events, story quests, and other activities. Players may also receive free Star Rail Passes, especially from early registration rewards. Weapons, known as Light Cones, are obtained in a similar way to characters.
Something Else You Should Be Aware Of
Light Cones come in three, four, and five-star rarities. Traces function like talents, allowing you to improve skills and attacks. Relics work similarly to artifacts and can be farmed to strengthen your team.
