If you’re in Steam and you open up the friend list, but you’re not able to open any chats by double-clicking on them, then there’s a way around it. This guide will let you know how to fix this problem. You need to navigate to the Friends & Chat settings and enable “Dock chats to the friend’s list”.
- You need to open the Steam application on your computer and click on “Friends” to access your friend list.

- Now to revert to the previous setup where the chat windows are separated from the friend’s list, you need to go back to Steam settings and turn off the “Dock chats to the friend’s list” option.
