How to Fix Steam Library Must Be Writeable

In this guide, you will find out how to fix Steam Library must be writeable. You have to follow the step-by-step instructions below to fix it.

This problem mainly occurs when you try to install the game on your steam by creating a new library and selecting your internet Harddrive/ SSD. An error will display in front of you saying that the steam library folder must be writeable.

1- It might occur because of hard drive failure. You have to run your disk and make sure that it is working properly. If your hard drives are working properly then this is a software glitch. To fix it, you have to go to Steam on the top left of your screen, select settings, and then go to downloads. Under the content libraries, you have to click on the Steam library folder as it will open the storage manager in front of you. Now you have to click on the three dots on the middle right side of your screen and select the Repair folder option. After that, try to download the game from the Steam library, and it will fix your issue.

2- In case you are still facing the issue, you have to go to your internal drive which is having issues. You need to create a new folder by right-clicking on it and then selecting the new folder option. You have to name this folder “Steam”. Inside this, you need to create a new folder by right-clicking on it and then selecting the new folder option. You have to name this folder “Steamapp” and then go back to the Steam folder. Right-click on it, then go to properties and make sure that read-only is unchecked. After this, go back to the steam library and again try to add the game in the folder which you have just created called “Steamapps”.

3- If still your problem is not solved, then you have to fully close Steam and go to the place where your Steam app is installed. For this, you have to open your C drive, then go to program files and open the Steam folder. You have to open the config folder, then scroll down and find the Libraries folder.VFD. Also, you have to open the notepad, drag the file and drop it on the notepad.

There, you will find all your existing folders in a sequence of numbers starting from 0. Now you have to scroll down to the last folder and then copy and paste it. After that, give this folder the next number e.g if you have duplicated folder 4 you have to name this copied folder 5. Now you need to add the path where you want to install your games and then you have to set the content ID to 1 and also set the total size to 1. You have to make sure that the apps list is empty. After doing all this you have to save this file and then you have to relaunch steam. It will completely solve your issue.
