How to Setup a Terraria Server

This guide will show you how to set up a Terraria server hosted off of your computer. Your friends will be able to join this server via your IP address.

You have to set up port forwarding for your server. You will need an installation of Terraria on your computer, your public IP address, your ipv4 address, and the login information to your router. So you have to open up the file explorer and navigate to the folder where you have installed Terraria.

You have to look for Terraria server.exe. If you launch the server right now, it would go online but it will be only local to your PC. In order to allow other players to connect to your server, you have to enable port forwarding through your router. Go to your router’s login screen and you will need your router’s default gateway for this. Type “cmd” into the windows search bar, open up the command prompt and type the “ipconfig”. At the bottom of the list, you will find your default gateway listed. You also need to take note of youripv4 address.

After that, open up the internet browser and type your router’s default gateway. You will be brought to your router’s login screen, and you have to log into this page.

After that, go to the Firewall tab and click on Virtual Servers Port on the sidebar. Then click on Add.

You can give any name to the server and then input 7777 – 7777 in Inbound Port. After that, set the format to TCP and input 7777 – 7777 in Local Port. Then enter your IPv4 address in Private IP Address and tap on Add Virtual Server.

To invite your friends to the server, you will need to disable the Windows Defender Firewall. Go to Control, click on System and Security and tap on Windows Defender Firewall. You have to disable it.

After that, provide your public IP address to your friends so that they can join the server. Now get back to file explorer and launch Terreria server.exe. Choose a world, set the player limit, and leave the server port as 7777. Then type “y” to activate the port forwarding and set a password if you want.

Now you can play Terreria with your friends.
