Pathfinder: Kingmaker is an isometric role-playing game developed by Owlcat Games. The game is based on Paizo Publishing’s Pathfinder franchise. The game features a real-time-with-pause or turn-based combat system and an isometric perspective.
The game is based on six modules that make up the Pathfinder Adventure Path campaign. It is set in the fictional Stolen Lands within the Pathfinder universe. The player assumes the role of a local lord who has to expand upon the Kingmaker tabletop module by carving out his own realm while surviving the harsh environment of the wilderness. In addition to the Stolen Lands, places like New Stelvan and River Kingdoms contribute significantly to the storyline.
The game begins in the mansion of Jamandi Aldori, a Restov ruler. You are among a group of adventures who are offered a barony in Stolen Lands if you can kill the Stag Lord, the self-proclaimed King of Shrink Hills. Before the adventure begins, the mansion is attacked by assassins. One of the adventurers named Tartuccio accuses the player of being a secret spy letting assassins in on purpose. Hearing this, Jamandi divides the adventurers into two groups giving you and Tartuccio equal adventurers to lead.
Tartuccio is later revealed to be the secret spy, and is killed. He is then revived by a person as a Kobald. You then encounter the Guardian of the Bloom in your dream and she tells you about a curse covering the region with an impassable fog. You then move on to successfully kill the Stag Lord. After that, you are declared Baron of the Shrike Hills. The story continues and involves the player going through different obstacles, battles, enemies and political problems to become the ultimate ruler of the uncontested Stolen Lands.
There game implements a unique alignment system which affects your alignment based on your actions in the game. When it comes to customization options, you can equip your character with various powerful weapons and classes. The game starts off with you as the only player but other members join you on the way. In addition to that, you meet several NPCs along the way and you can recruit the ones you think you can trust.
The graphics in the game are stunning, the engine is very well optimized and gameplay is very smooth. With a rich and detailed storyline, you really leave the game feeling like a king.
