Description
Puyo Puyo Tetris is a puzzle game developed by Sonic Team. The game is a crossover between the Puyo Puyo series and the Tetris franchise.
Puyos was able to unite Ringo with Carbuncle, Amitie and Arle. All of a sudden, they notice strange blocks raining down from the sky. They are transported to a spaceship where they meet Tee, who is the captain of the spaceship and his crew members. The crew tells Ringo and others that they battle using Tetris and not Puyo Puyo. The spaceship then crashes in Ringo’s world and they notice some crew members’ minds are being controlled by someone in space, indicating the merging of two dimensions. To find out, they search the space and find the Keeper of Dimensions “Ex”, who is also the former captain of the spaceship. He tells them that he feels lonely having to manage the two dimensions all by himself. Ecolo and Dark Prince then successfully create a portal so Tee can visit Ex at any time. Ex separates the two dimensions again and the matter is resolved.
The gameplay features two game styles, Tetris and Puyo. In Tetris, blocks known as Tetriminos fall from the sky and you have to arrange them in a horizontal line. When you successfully fill a complete horizontal line, it disappears. You can strategically place blocks to clear multiple horizontal lines at the same time. The game ends if the blocks reach the top of the screen. In Puyo, colored blocks fall from the sky and you can rotate them before finally placing them. When you match 4 or more of the same color, they pop. You can also perform chain combos. The game ends if puyo reaches the X mark.
The game features 6 single player “Challenge Modes” along with an Adventure Campaign mode. In addition to that, there are five Arcade modes, Swap, Fusion, Party, Versus and Big Bang mode. All of these arcade modes are playable both locally and online with up to 4 players. In multiplayer, performing chain combos and clearing multiple lines sends garbage to the opponents playing field. Players are eliminated once the playing field is filled to the top and the last one remaining wins. The exception is Party mode where the player with the highest score at the end of the time limit wins. You earn credits playing through each mode and this credit can be used to unlock additional features like art styles.
