Description
Tales of Berseria is a Japanese-style action role-playing video game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game serves as a prequel to Tales of Zestiria and is the sixteenth main entry in the Tales series.
In the game, the player assumes the role of a young woman named Velvet and joins her on a journey as she learns to turn the pain of her traumatic past into a forceful weapon.
As a child, Velvet’s village was attacked by daemons during a Scarlet Night. Her sister was killed but Velvet and her little brother were saved by their Brother-in-law, Artorius. Several years later, Scarlet night returns again infecting villagers with Daemonblight, a disease which turns humans into daemons. Her brother-in-law tries to sacrifice Velvet and her little brother during a ritual called “Advent” killing her brother in the process. Velvet fights back but her arm gets possessed by Daemonblight and is amputated as a result, making her pass out.
When she wakes up, she finds herself in a prison for Daemons. Enraged by the actions of her Brother-In-law, she swears to kill him. Meanwhile, after the advent, Artorius forms the Abbey, an organization meant to fight off daemons with the help of Malakhims(powerful beings created as a result of negative emotions) and is seen as a savior by the people. After spending three years in prison, Velvet is freed by who she thinks to be the reincarnation of her deceased sister and wife of Artorius.
Freeing a couple of fellow prisoners, Velvet sets out on her journey of vengeance. She learns that Artorius and the Abbey intend to purge the Daemonblight by erasing all emotion from humankind. In order to do this, they have been sacrificing people and feeding them to Innominat in order to summon him. Innominat is one of the five Empyreans, the most powerful Malakhims. They end up successfully summoning Innominat and he takes up the form of Velvet’s deceased brother. In order to defeat Artorius and Innominat, Velvet summons the other four Empyreans by sacrificing the souls of the exorcists. Velvet successfully avenges the death of her deceased brother and kills Artorius fulfilling her role as the Lord of Calamity.
The game features rich and emotional storyline, characters with intricate details and stunning cutscenes. The gameplay is smooth, well optimized and the soundtrack is amazing. All of these features make the game a great addition in the Tales series.
