Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a role-playing video game developed and published by Sega. The game is the eighth installment in the Yakuza series.
The game introduces Ichiban Kasuga as the main protagonist of the story. When Jo Sawashiro presumably commits a murder, the Tojo Clan’s Arakawa family’s Patriarch asks Ichiban to go to prison instead of him. Ichiban agrees because he wants to repay the Arakawa family for saving his life in his youth. After spending eighteen years in prison for a murder that he did not commit, Ichiban comes out only to find out that the family doesn’t even remember him. He then finds out that the Arakawa family deceived the Tojo Clan by revealing their operations to the police allowing the rival Omi Alliance to take over Kamurocho. It is then revealed the Arakawa himself now rules the Omi Alliance. Enraged upon hearing this, Ichiban sets out on a mission to uncover the truth behind his former boss’s betrayal. During his journey, he partners up with various characters including a former detective named Adachi, an Ex-Nurse name Nanda and a Geomijul agent Kim Yoon-So in addition to a few others.
The game features a completely revamped battle system that incorporates a turn based RPG type combat. The game also introduces a four person battle team with access to various assists that strengthen the party and defeat enemies. The game also features character classes known as “Jobs” which allow you to change your party members’ skillset to better fit their playstyle. Side-quests known as sub-stories make a comeback from the previous games allowing you to gain additional rewards. Additionally, the game introduces several new side activities like Dragon Kart in addition to old ones like karaoke.
The game changes its focus from Tokyo for the first time in the Yakuza series and features Isezaki Ijincho as the central location for the storyline. Another first for the series is the absence of the main protagonist Kazuma Kiryu who is replaced by Ichiban. The game also features Mukoda and Kamataki as the first player controllable female characters in the game.
