The game is set in a fictionalized version of the San Francisco Bay Area, which is twice as large as the Chicagoland setting from Watch Dogs. The player can use different methods to approach missions. They can use guns, mines, or their own melee weapon.

The auto-save system in Watch Dogs 2 records your progress after every major objective, or collectible. It will also trigger when you make any purchase. A series “fox” logo will appear on the screen, indicating your game is being saved.
