AMD's Random Performance Issues Pinned on FTPM With a Fix Still Two Months Away

AMD’s random performance issues pinned on fTPM.

Updates are coming to address stuttering issues.

They have been frustrated by random freezing, latency spikes and sudden performance drops.

They are difficult to replicate due to their randomness.

They have managed to isolate the problems to its firmware TPM.

AMD has determined that select AMD Ryzen system configurations may intermittently perform extended fTPM-related memory transactions in SPI flash memory ("SPIROM") located on the motherboard.

Which can lead to temporary pauses in system interactivity or responsiveness until the transaction is concluded, AMD stated.

The BIOS updates are expected to start in May 2022.

If you purchase a hardware TPM module, you can get around the issue in the meantime.

Before you buy it, check to see if your motherboard supports it.
