Halo Composers Suing Microsoft For Two Decades of Royalty Payments

Halo composers suing Microsoft for two decades of royalty payments.

If that is 20 percent, Microsoft is not making much money.

A lawsuit was filed in June 2020 on Microsoft by two composers of the original Halo music.

They are both behind countless pieces of Halo music that have not been used in games.

They were sold as soundtracks and re-recorded for other games.

They claim that the music is licensed to Bungie even before Microsoft bought them.

Things changed when they decided to release the separate soundtrack.

The first contract came in after that.

They should get 20% of the profits on anything outside the game that uses their music, under this contract.

Microsoft has been sending little checks but it doesn’t reflect anywhere near what they should be getting, they believe.

The Halo music is work-for-hire and rather brazenly, they counterclaimed.
