How to Solve the Bear Claw & Repentance Rock Mystery in Red Dead Redemption 2?

To find out what happened at bear claw, you have to go to the Repentance rock.

There's a mystery site here, that's quite popular among the Red Dead Community. It's made of an animal hide and a few stones, the stones are decorative and don't hold any significance to the mystery.

This one is based on a real-Life petroglyph from Utah.

The thing interested here is what's painted on the animal hide, these are native american symbols. Lets's focus on these three first.

All three symbols represent the Mescalero camp located here.

Mescalero is the name of a real-Life apache tribe. The Teepee represents the many abandoned teepees you can find here.

The medicine wheel represent the medicine wheel in the middle of the camp, it's inspired by a real-life one in the Bighorn national forest.

If you stand in the middle of the medicine wheel, there is a line of rocks that points in the direction of the rising sun. This line is represented by the sun symbol with an arrow on one of its rays.

Now let’s focus on the Bear Track symbol.

It represents the bear claw camp.

These two camps are connected with the arrow symbol.

The arrow points at the bear claw camp, it means that the Mescalero tribe attacked the bear claw settlers.

You can witness the aftermath of the attack in RDR2. The settlers have arrows in them, confirming that they were killed by native Americans.

If you take a photo of this scene, the Game will refer to it as a dead settler.

The name repentance rock night give us a clue who left the animal hide nearby.

It was most likely a member of the Mescalero tribe who had a guilty conscience. Why did the Mescalero tribe attack the bear claw settlers? That's left for your own interpretations.
