Intel Pushes Motherboard Makers to Drop DDR4 Support From 700 Series Motherboards
Intel pushes motherboard makers to drop DDR4 support from 700 series motherboards.
DDR5 is too soon for the B and H series?
700 series boards will be released in Q3 of this year.
Even though Rapto Lake CPUs are expected to retain DDR4 support, Intel is pushing motherboard makers to drop its support.
Raptor Laker is expected to be compatible with existing 600 series motherboards with both DD4 and DD5 support.
It will be useful for the owners who have high end DDR4 kits.
Next generation motherboards can drop DDR4 support.
If the pricing and availability is reasonable, then there will be no reason to continue DDR4 support.
Z790 boards will only support DDR5, it is to be expected.
If DDR5 wants to penetrate the lower end of the market the prices need to be level or just a little more than DDR4.
Adoption rate of systems with B and H series chipsets will certainly slow, if DDR5 carries high pricing.
