How to Fish – Rust

In this guide, you will get to know how to fish in Rust. You will also get the location of the Large Fishing Village from where you can purchase the baits and get to know how to sell the caught fish.

Step 1

First, you have to go to the large fishing village on the left bottom side of the map near the coast, as shown in the image below.

When you get there, you have to run into a guy named ConCon. He will sell you the fishing baits like worms as well as you can also buy the fishing rods from him.

If you don’t want to buy the fishing rod from him, you can also craft your fishing rod. You will need two feet of rope and two hundred pieces of wood to craft it.

Step 3

Now you have to equip it, then click on it, and see Contains on the left section of the screen. You have to put the bait, as shown in the image below.  

Step 4

You cannot do the fishing without the bait. You can use the worms and find them by harvesting pumpkin, corn, and hemp plants. And you can also buy it from the guy you meet on the island. There is a simple value on each bait item, like worms; it has three values, so you have to drag the worm and drop it on the fishing rod. There, you will see that it is equipped in the Contain section. 

Step 5

After equipping it, hold the right-click on the mouse, and you will see a red bob marker which means you have to wait. When it is blue, you are ready to go and start fishing, as shown in the image below.  

You will need to wait for the splashing effect so that the fish bites the bait, and once it does, you have to left-click from the mouse and hold it. You will start reeling the fish and listening to your fishing rod’s line because if it starts getting tense, it will snap. You have to leave dragging for a while, use the “A” and “D” keys for angle, and pull the fish from one side to the other. 

Step 6

After catching the fish, you can also use that fish as bait as they almost have the same bait effect as a normal worm. When you click the Gut button, it will gut the fish, and you will get animal fat, bones, and raw fish, which is better than your normal bait. 

You can use the other animal meats or Raw Pork as your bait, which will give you high bait effectiveness.

There are six specific fishes which you can sell scrap at the fishing village. This fishing has a very high bait level like if you catch the Small Trout, the bait effect of this fish is 14, which is the highest bait effectiveness. 

Step 7

Now you have to head back to the large fishing village, and you will find a machine. In that machine, you will see that you can sell only six types of fish: Small Trout, Yellow Perch, Salmon, Catfish, Orange Ruffy, and small sharks, as shown in the image below.   

You will get the least amount of money from Small Trout and yellow Perches, and then Salmon. Orange Ruffy is the second-best, and Small Sharks is the best-selling one, giving you a good amount of money in the large fishing village.

You can fish anywhere in the water, but there are certain locations for certain fish. You cannot find Small Sharks in lakes or small rivers, but you can only find them in the far sea areas. When you have the high effective baits, then you will catch good loot and fish.
