This guide will let you know how to use, apply, and find Ashes of War in the Elden Ring. Go through the guide and follow the step-by-step instructions to do so.
You will need to go to the gate front location to apply ashes of war. You have to go through the first step side of grace outside the tutorial area where you start the game, and from there, you have to follow the path towards the northeast until you reach the gate front ruins, as shown in the map below.
When you get to the location, you will find some enemies there. So you have to fight and kill them. If you are new in the game, you have to level up and get better weapons before trying to clear this location.
Once you have killed all of the enemies, you have to go forward, and you will find stairs in the center of the gate front ruins. You have to go through the stairs and enter the cave, as shown in the image below.
The stairs will lead you into the underground chamber, and inside the chamber, you will find the chest. So you have to open the chest, and you will get ash of war called storm stomp, and also you will get a whetstone knife.
You can apply ashes of war to your weapons and armaments when you have the knife. To apply ashes of war to your weapon, you will need to visit the site of grace. So you have to go there and rest at the site of grace. While you are resting, you need to select the ashes of war tab to open up a menu. Go to the top left side, where you can switch through the tabs and equip ashes of war, but ashes of war only apply to specific weapons and specific armaments, as shown in the image below.
To check what weapon you can use for the ashes of war, you need to go to your inventory, tap over to the ashes of war tab, and go to the ash of war. To find the description of what the ash of war does and apply it, you need to select the weapon first. Then you have to left-click on it; you will see which ash of war you can add to the weapon, as shown in the image below.
To apply the ash of war, you first need to select that ash of war, then you need to select the type of affinity you want to apply, and that affinity changes the type of stats on your weapon, as shown in the image below.
It will apply the ash of war to your weapon. To use the ash of war with your weapon, you need to make sure you are holding the weapon with both of your hands, and then you have to press the event action button, and on PC, you need to press the E key from the keyboard.
Then you need to press the attack button by left click, so to activate the ash of war ability on your weapon, you need to hold the shift key and right-click from the mouse, which will activate the ash of war ability, as shown in the image below.
