Iconic Anime Cyborg Characters Of All Time

If you are an anime fan, you’re probably familiar with the term ‘cyborg’. But what exactly is a cyborg? Though this word sounds like something out of science fiction or comic books, the word actually has a very specific meaning. In this article, you’ll find out the top iconic cyborg characters.

Major Motoko Kusanagi

Major Motoko Kusanagi is the main protagonist in Masamune Shirow’s anime and manga series, who is known by her aliases “The Major,” “Chroma,” “Ghost,” and “Fire Starter,” and “Mira Killian.” She is a Japanese cyborg and team leader of Public Security Section 9.  

Genos

Genos is a cyborg who is the disciple of Saitama. He is a 19-year-old cyborg and is 178 cm tall. He is a highly skilled and strategic combatant. He has the ability to fly, fire manipulation, electricity manipulation, and energy projection. He also has the ability to self-destruct. 

Gally

Alita is also known as Gally, is the protagonist and title character of Battle Angel Alita and its sequels. Alita is a cyborg who was found in a trash heap by a scientist named Daisuke Ido. Alita has no memory of her past prior to being found in the trash heap. Ido rebuilds Alita and she becomes his apprentice as a doctor. Alita has a strong sense of justice and is determined to protect the innocent. She is also highly skilled in martial arts and is a formidable opponent in combat.

Inuyashiki

Inuyashiki is a 58-year-old salaryman. He has a wife and two kids. He was born on May 19th, 1959, he is 167 cm tall and weighs 61 kg. Inuyashiki has brown eyes and grey hair. He has been working for the same company for a long time. His daughter and son both studies in the high school.  

Jet Black

Jet Black is a bounty hunter who was formerly an officer of the ISSP. He is 6’2” tall and has black hair and brown eyes. He was born on December 3, 2035, and is 36 years old. He is of Ganymede origin and his known aliases include “Black Dog”. He pilots the spaceship “HammerHead ” and his weapon of choice is the Walther P99. He has blood type A and is currently alive.

Franky

Franky is a shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates. He is the crew’s eighth member and the seventh to join, doing so at the end of the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. He is a skilled mechanic, and his primary occupation is as a shipwright, but he is also a talented dismantler. He was born in South Blue and resided in Water 7 before joining the Straw Hats. He took on the epithet “Iron Man Franky” after his fight with Nero. He is also very strong and can use his cyborg body to fight.

Jinno

Jinno is a major character in the Afro Samurai world. He is later known as Kuma (クマ, Kuma). Kuma is a cyborg samurai and the bodyguard of the Sword Master. He is a skilled fighter and is very loyal to his master and sister.

Triela

Triela was a female cyborg who was one of the Social Welfare Agency’s first-generation cyborgs and one of the agency’s second oldest. She was killed at the age of 16 and her handler was Victor Hilshire. Triela was affiliated with the Social Welfare Agency.

Frank archer

An antagonist exclusive to the Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 anime series, Frank Archer is a lieutenant colonel in the Amestrian State Military. He is introduced as the replacement of Maes Hughes and has a goal of becoming a war hero. Archer has a machine gun for a weapon and is able to use an automail-enhanced body (later in the series). 

Kikuchiyo

Kikuchiyo is a machine samurai who, after revealing his background as a former peasant, officially became the seventh member of the titular group. He has orange hair and eyes and typically wears his exoskeleton. Kikuchiyo is a skilled swordsman and is known for his short temper. He is also the most emotional of the group and is often the first to cry or show sadness. Kikuchiyo is killed by Kyuzo during the Battle of the Seven Samurai.

Joe Shimamura

Joe Shimamura is the leader of the 00 Cyborgs and the main protagonist of the anime series Cyborg 009. He was created by the late Shotaro Ishinomori and is a juvenile delinquent who becomes a freedom fighter. Shimamura has superhuman abilities due to his refined accelerator and he uses these abilities to protect people and spend time with his fellow cyborgs. His goals are to defeat Black Ghost and stop them from triggering another world war, as well as protect the world from those who wish to threaten it. He is close friends with the other 00 Cyborgs, as well as Dr. Gilmore and Akira Fudo/ Devilman. He also has a strong hatred for the Black Ghost Organisation and their cyborgs, as well as the Mythos Cyborgs.

Ichise

The main protagonist of the series, Ichise is a quiet, 19-year-old prize-fighter who was orphaned at a young age. He affiliates with the Organo and Lux gangs. He first appears in ROGUE: 01 Stranger and last appears in ROGUE: 22 Myth. He is voiced by Satoshi Haga in the Japanese version and Justin Gross in the English version.

Android 18 

Android 18 is an attractive female android who is taller than most humans and has a fair complexion. She made her debut in the anime series Dragon Ball Z and has also appeared in the movies Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Android 18 is a human-type earthling that was created by Dr. Gero. She is a martial artist and employee of Capsule Corporation who is temporarily deputized by the Galactic Patrol. She is the twin sister of Android 17 and the wife of Krillin. She has a daughter named Marron.
