Hogwarts Legacy introduces magical combat in which you must guide your hero through numerous opponents using spells and charms to defeat magically-abled opponents. For those struggling to understand the game’s intricate combat mechanism, here are some tricks and tips for those looking to conquer the wizarding world.
Play Defensively
Playing defensively is the best option for players competing in hard or medium difficulty. The game is set up to challenge your skills with varying levels of magical opponents. Enemies can’t hit you if you wait for them to attack you and respond appropriately. For a yellow attack, use the Protego spell to counter it. For red attacks, dodge away and leash a deadly attack. Enemies can’t hit you if you play defensively. If you’re outnumbered, work on your dodges and use Protego for yellow attacks.
Protego
As explained before, Protego is one of the most useful and common spells you’re gonna use in this game. Mastering this spell can help you launch a counterattack on your foes. When an attack is almost about to land, using this spell at the last second deflects the projectile back at the attacker, dealing damage while playing defensively. Upgrading this spell allows you to send two projectiles to two enemies. Practice makes perfect, so keep practising the Protego spell, and soon you’ll be invincible.
Breaking Enemy Shields
How annoying it’s when you’re attacking, but the enemy has their shield up? Also, your spells are on a cooldown, or you can’t be bothered to swap them out. There’s an easy way to get rid of those pesky enemy shields. Just fling objects at them and then deal damage when their shields are broken. Accio or Leviosa spells allow you to grab them and leave them vulnerable to more attacks. Use this handy tactic for defeating stubborn enemies. Learn to use and save objects laying around and use them tactfully when shielded opponents appear.
Know your Enemy’s Weaknesses
Hogwarts Legacy has various opponents, from bandits and spiders to trolls. Each enemy has certain weaknesses, and the game gives you specific challenges against different opponents. Please pay attention to these challenges, for there are clues on how to defeat them. Trolls, a relatively difficult opponent, can be hammered when they throw rocks but block them with a Protego spell and then quickly use R1 to fling rocks back at them. This knocks them down, and trolls are susceptible to increased damage while they’re down. Try to complete these challenge tips to better understand your enemy’s weaknesses. Specialized spell combos for effective for specific opponents, so try and complete challenge tips to master your combat.
Ancient Magic
Ancient magic is incredibly powerful, and in combat, nothing exacts as much damage as ancient magic. The ancient magic meter fills up slowly, usually from hitting enemies repeatedly without taking damage. Another way to fill ancient magic is by using talents that fill up the meter on successful Protego blocks. Later in the game, when traits are unlocked, there’s one that increases ancient magic build-up. Another one that, on successful dodges, increases ancient magic. Ancient magic is a handy way of eliminating enemies when outnumbered.
Red, Purple & Yellow Spells
Damage, Force, and Control Spells are available to choose from, and each deals with their corresponding enemy’s shields. Having one at your disposal allows you to have a varied and multifaceted approach. These three different spells are vital for beginners and amateurs looking for a good spell setup. It allows you to have more range and variety in attack.
Using Stealth
The Disillusionment spell allows you to go into stealth immediately. Paired with Petrificus Totalus, this one spell leaves enemies scattered and defeated. An upgrade for Petrificus Totalus increases the damage dealt to two opponents in the same area. This spell is highly useful for infiltrating encampments and also minimizing opponents. Compared to facing them head-on, it’s a better idea to thin out the crowd first.
Quality of Your Gear
You don’t need to constantly worry about the stats of your gear. In Hogwarts Legacy, the quality of the gear doesn’t matter as much until you unlock traits. Takes around 20 hours of playtime. Once you’ve unlocked traits, the previous gear won’t be sufficient for your traits, and you’ll need gold-level gear. The important thing to remember is to focus on your offensive stats. Keep getting those numbers up, and after unlocking traits, you can craft traits on gold-level gear. So for the first 20 hours of game-time, don’t stress about the quality of your gear.
Traits
Magical traits help bewitch your gear with superior magical powers. They are crucial for defeating high-level enemies. After unlocking traits, you’ve got to look for them. Traits can be found in collection chests in bandit camps, meaning you have to clear out those camps first. Then loot collection chests to obtain a random trait. You can get other traits from doing challenges. The traits in collection chests are the ones you want, as these increase your damage compared to other defensive ones.
As traits are placed randomly, there’s a high chance that you have to loot numerous camps to get the trait you want. Alas! But there’s another way out. Save the game before looting the collection chest, loot the collection chest, and load the game from the last saved checkpoint. This time when you loot the chest, there’s a different trait in the collection chest. Keep doing this until you get the desired trait. So it would be best if you kept trying until you get a Level 3 trait, and then simply by using a single level 3 trait, you can craft other levels 3 traits.
Using these tips and tricks suggested above, you’ll be able to defeat your enemies in no time and save the wizarding world from the forces of darkness.
