You can block the shots of your opponents with a crouch block by getting down and crouching and knocking the puck out of the way. But if you are not careful and get too close to the player, you will get a penalty.
You have to press L1 to get into a crouching position when the opponent is about to pass the puck. It will block the puck and then you will take possession of the puck.
