How to Fix Fortnite 0XC0000142 & Untrusted System File dwmapi

Why the 0xc0000142 pop ups? 

When getting the 0xc0000142 error coupled with dwmapi.dll error from EAC in Fortnite, it is simply because your .dll is out of date. 

There are two ways to resolve this issue. The following two methods are explained step-by-step below. 

Method 1: Delete the Certificates file from the Fortnite folder.

Method 2: Update your Windows.

How to fix this error with Method 1 ?

In Method 1, you need to delete the files present in the Certificates folder.

Step 1: In order to locate it, you have to go to C:/ drive

Step 2: Now come up to the Program Files.

Step 3: And go to the Epic Games folder.

Step 4: Now after getting to the Epic Games folder, go to the Fortnite folder. 

Step 5: And open up the FortniteGame folder. 

Step 6: Come up to the Binaries folder in the FortniteGame folder. 

Step 7: Here, you will need to open the Win64 folder. 

Step 8: Find the EasyAntiCheat folder and open it up.

Step 9: There, you will find the Certificates folder.

Step 10: Open it up and delete the files present there and you are done with your first method. 

Step 11: Now you can open the Epic Games launcher and run your Fortnite game. 

How to fix this error with Method 2 ?

You need to update your Windows to get rid of this error.

Step 1: To update your Windows, you have to go to the Start menu and search for Windows Update. Now click on the Windows Update settings.  

Step 2: Click on “Check for updates”, and wait for the update to finish.

Step 3: Now you can open the Epic Games launcher and run your Fortnite game and you are done with your second method.
