How to Install Portal 2 VR mod

Follow this step-by-step guide to download and install the Portal 2 VR mod for an immersive gaming experience.

Step 1: Ensure You Have Portal 2 on Steam

  • First of all, you must own a copy of Portal 2 on Steam.
  • If you haven’t purchased it yet, you’ll need to do so.

Step 2: Download the VR Mod Files

  • Now download the Portal 2 VR Mod to proceed.
  • Once on the page, click the prominent green Download button to start the downloading process.
  • Once the download is complete, take the folder to your desktop.

Step 3: Extract the Archive

  • Right-click on the downloaded folder and choose the option to extract the archive into a new folder with the same name.
  • Inside this newly created folder, you’ll find three subfolders and a text file, which will be crucial later.

Step 4: Copy Mod Files to Portal 2 Directory

  • Open your Steam library and locate the Portal 2 game directory.
  • Right-click on Portal 2, then select ‘Properties’.
  • In the ‘Properties’ window, click on ‘Local Files’ and then ‘Browse Local Files’.
  • Now, copy the three subfolders from the extracted archive. Ensure that you paste them directly into the main Portal 2 directory, not inside one of the existing subfolders.

If prompted, confirm any overwrites that may occur.

Step 5: Configure Launch Options

  • Open the text file you found in the extracted archive.
  • This file contains commands for starting the game.
  • Select all of these commands, right-click, and copy them.
  • Go back to your Steam library, right-click on Portal 2, select Properties, and navigate to the ‘General’ tab.
  • Scroll to the bottom, locate the ‘Launch Options’ text box, and paste the commands you copied from the text file into this box.

Step 6: Prepare Your VR Setup

Now take your VR headset and connect it to your PC using a cable, Air Link, or Virtual Desktop, depending on your setup.

Step 7: Launch Portal 2 in VR

Now it’s time to launch Portal 2 from your Steam library. You’ll receive a notice that Portal 2 will run in your headset. Press ‘OK’ to proceed, and you should soon see the game in your VR headset. This will enable you to move and interact with the game using your VR controllers.
