By default, you will not start with a thermometer. You can make up to three thermometers for use after purchasing them from the buy menu. They will cost you 30$ each.
By default, the game has set the thermometer to the celsius scale.
A thermometer is the best item for Phasmophobia, it is one of the three standard items that always run at the start of every mission. Technically, it is not important but it will help in finding ghosts as every ghost generates a discernable temperature drop in the area where they are haunting.
The thermometer will be required if you want to do the detective room below 10 celsius. The best thing a thermometer can do is to find an area with lower ambient temperature. As it will be indicating the presence of a ghost. Generally, it’s below 12 celsius.
When the temperature drops to the freezing point, it indicates the presence of a wreath phantom, banshee mirror denim, or urine.
If the temperature is above the freezing point, you need to wait for some time and recheck the temperature later. As the temperature drops, the ghosts become more active.
