Boneworks is a VR based narrative, action adventure experimental physics game developed and published by Stress Level Zero.
Boneworks starts as a tutorial for the history of VR interaction. The player assumes the role of Arthur Ford, the head of security for a fictional company named Monogon. The game’s storyline has some connections with the studio’s previous game, Duck Season. The game is based in a fictional digital city called MythOS City. This city uses the engine framework called “Boneworks” and an artificial intelligence based operating system called MythOS acts as the brain of this city. The brain child of Arthur and Monogon, this city uses a very unstable yet very useful source of energy called “Void energy”. A rival company called Gammon was able to cause the MythOS City to go into lockdown by tricking Arthur into using a virus infested hard drive. Your job as Arthur is to reset the system clock in the city in order to reverse the lockdown.
The game features complicated physics systems and very realistic looking armor. You have to battle with a vast variety of AI enemies in order to get out of this virus infected virtual city. The game incorporates several realistic physics interactions including the ability to manipulate all the objects in the game according to their real-life size and weight. Actions like gun loading and robust melee action are representative of how much effort the action would take in real life. You can accomplish different levels by completing tasks such as stacking boxes and climbing ledges. The game encourages winning and could care less about the ethics of it. It doesn’t matter if you cheated or solved a puzzle in a completely unintended way, if you were able to complete it, you are a winner. It feels a lot like the game wants you to think of yourself as a winner just because you played this game. And that is not a hard thing to do considering the futuristic, science fiction vibe of the game.
