There are a lot of potentially bad or weird places you can build your base in this game. In this guide, you will find which are the worst places to build a base in Subnautica (excluding biomes that are deeper than The blood kelp biome.)
- To reach the first biome, you need to start from the coral tube that sticks up out of the water and head about two notches to the left of the northeast until you reach the mountain biome.
When going to this biome, it is suggested to bring a sea moth with an mk1-mk2 depth module, as well as perimeter defense, a stasis rifle, and a sea glide. You may need a radiation suit since this biome is a bit closer to the ship.
The two biggest threats that you will find in this biome are reaper Leviathans and warpers. Warpers can be very annoying due to the fact that if they get near your vehicle they can warp you out of your vehicle. If you use your knife to attack them, you can make them warp away. On the other hand, you must try to avoid reaper leviathans as best as you can as they can do big damage to your vehicle or pretty much instantly kill you if you aren’t in a vehicle. You can use perimeter defense against them to warp them off or freeze them using the stasis rifle to give yourself time to run away.
The only good reason to build in the mountains is because of the amount of space in the biome. So you can build your base as big as you want and in any potential direction that you want.
There are also a few resource deposits that you can find scattered throughout the biome, as well as a few other resources like shale And sandstone outcrops, and uraninite.
There are a good number of reapers in the mountain biome and they are very annoying. There also aren’t good power sources around, aside from the hydrothermal vents that are scattered throughout the biome.
In short, it’s a very open and dangerous biome, it also has resources. But the risks from the creatures are very high, which is why it is a bad biome to build in.
2. To reach the next biome, you need to use the same coral tube starting point and head about a notch in a half or two notches to the right of the northwest until you reach one of the Few blood kelp biomes
For this biome, it is recommended to bring at least a sea moth with an mk2 depth module. You can have perimeter defense as well but it may not be as effective against the creatures in this biome, a seaglide, a stasis rifle, and a knife.
For creatures, there are a few you’ll have to worry about in this biome, the ampeel, crab squids, blood crawlers, and warpers. Depending on which blood kelp biome you go to you might even see Ghost leviathans.
You cannot use perimeter defense against ampeels and they can do pretty good damage to both you and your vehicles. So you must try to stay clear of them as best as you can but if you need to you can use Your stasis rifle against them to freeze them.
Crabsquids can set off an emp and disable your vehicles/electronics and although you can use perimeter defense against them, you have to be quick enough. Otherwise, you will likely get your vehicle disabled for a short time. They also do good damage to you just like ampeels can.
Warpers are the same as they were in the mountains, they can warp you out of your vehicle. If they get close, you can use perimeter defence against them but if they warp you, you can use your knife and attack them with it if you have it. When they take enough damage, they will warp away/retreat.
Blood crawlers are like bigger versions of the smaller cave crawlers you see on the islands and in the aurora. Although just like cave crawlers, they aren’t that much of a threat, you can easily kill them by using your knife if you choose to.
And finally, ghost leviathans which you may rarely see or not see at all depending on where you are. But there is still a possibility that they can appear, you must avoid them as best as you can since it’s on par with how dangerous the Reaper leviathan is. You can always freeze it using the stasis rifle or again using perimeter defence against it to warp it off.
In terms of resources, there are more resources available here like ruby, magnetite, large mineral deposits, uraninite, and shale outcrops, which are all good resources. But the threats in the blood kelp biome are a big reason to not build a base there.
There are 4-5 potential threats you may encounter in the blood kelp zone. Each creature being dangerous and can easily damage or kill both you and your vehicles, making it a tad bit difficult to build, and live in the biome without having to worry about being attacked by creatures in the area.
3. The last place that is bad to build your base in Subnautica is the dunes. You can reach it by using the same coral tube starting point you used before and heading about 2 notches to the left of northwest Until you reach the dunes biome.
It is recommended to bring a sea moth with an MK1-MK2 depth module, perimeter defence and sonar, a sea glide, a stasis rifle, and a knife.
The two biggest threats yet again will be reaper leviathans which you can avoid, use perimeter defense against, or freeze with the stasis rifle. The other threat are warpers which can warp you out of your vehicles, so you can either run from them or fight them Using a knife until they warp away.
On the bright side, the dunes are a very open and spacious biome like the Mountains, but sandstone outcrops, limestone outcrops, some large resource Deposits, and ruby is about the most you’ll find for resources in this biome. So the dunes aren’t very resource rich it’s also a fairly dangerous biome on top of that.
Warpers are one of the more annoying creatures in the dunes. But there are a total of 8 reaper leviathans in the dunes, which can make it a bit hard to build your base without having to worry about a reaper coming up behind or near you and attacking your vehicles even while you aren’t in them or you. So you’d likely be a Little tense and on edge while being here since there’s the constant threat of reapers in the area.
