Wave machine is used to make a wave of minecarts by throwing them upwards in the air. Pistons will push the minecarts in the air in the form of a wave.

You have to start from placing 10 pistons on the ground while leaving a gap of one block between all of them. And then add a slime block each at their top. Place a railing on the top of slime blocks and add a minecart on the railing.
Add a layer of smooth quartz blocks in the front. Place redstone repeaters on them while leaving a gap of one block and use redstone dust in the gap to connect the redstone repeaters.
Add a redstone repeater in front and set its delay to 3 ticks. The next thing you need to do is to make a redstone clock in front of this repeater. Connect the clock with a repeater using redstone dust and then add a lever.
Pull this lever to start the wave machine.
