5 Safest locations/biomes in Subnautica

There are way more dangerous biomes than safe ones in Subnautica, so it’s good for you to know which biomes and places are the safest in the game. This guide will let you know which are the top five safest biomes in Subnautica.

  1. You have to use the coral tube that sticks up out of the water as your starting point.

To reach the first place, start from the coral tube that sticks out of the water and head about two notches to the left of the northwest until you reach the kelp forest biome. There are multiple kelp forest biomes you can find around the world.

You don’t need to bring anything in particular here other than a knife and a sea glide to move around faster.
The only thing in the kelp forest that can hurt you are stalkers, but they don’t do that much damage, and you can kill them very easily using your knife if you have to. Stalkers can drop stalker teeth, a resource you’ll need, so it’s better to leave them alive.

Although it’s not the best biome to build in due to the limited space, this biome is relatively safe aside from the stalkers being annoying by attacking you every so often if you get close to them.

You can find a lifepod and a total of 2 wrecks in this biome, and you can find sandstone as well as limestone outcrops in this biome. Other than that, there’s not much else to say regarding the kelp forest, but it is more or less a safe biome since the stalkers aren’t that big of a threat or much of a threat.

2. The next biome you have to reach by using the same starting point again and heading about 1-2 notches to the right of the southwest until you reach the grassy plateau’s biome. Like the kelp forest, multiple parts of the grassy plateau are scattered around.

Like last time, you won’t need anything specific coming here, a sea moth or sea glide is good to have, and a high-capacity 02 tank is also useful since the biome is a bit deeper than the kelp forest.

The grassy plateaus are similar to the kelp forest when it comes. It’s a safer biome as the only creature that will harm you in this biome are sand sharks, which are slightly less dangerous than stalkers since they have lower health than stalkers do.

Sand sharks are the only thing you’d have to worry about in this biome; they aren’t that much of a threat. You can find five wrecks in this biome, and as for resources, you can find quartz, mainly sandstone outcrops, and limestone outcrops.
Not much else to say about this place; it is a pretty nice-looking biome. It’s open, so it’s really good for the base building.

3. The next place you will reach by using the same starting point and heading about two notches to the left of the west until you reach a large cave entrance along with sea treaders walking either into or out of the cave or just in the general area.

Now coming to this biome, you may need a bit more equipment. It is recommended to bring a sea moth with at least an MK1 or MK2 depth module as well as a high capacity 02 tank, and sonar if you want to see everything around you a bit better.

When you get to this dark and super-open area, keep heading straight without stopping. Because you have to pass through the dunes biome, and there are reapers there. You can also have perimeter defence if you want to be safe and sure as you reach the cave.

The sea readers’ cave is also a pretty safe biome/area. There are no threats in the cave/biome, and the only creature you’ll find in the area are the sea readers that walk slowly on the seafloor through the cave.

There aren’t any wrecks in this biome, but in terms of resources, you can get pretty much an infinite amount of shale outcrops here. Lastly, the sea readers will dig up shale outcrops near their feet as they walk around. And shale outcrops can contain lithium, diamonds, or gold.

It’s a pretty open biome; there are also small cave systems within it that you can explore. But besides that, there isn’t much more to say about this biome.

4. For the next place, you don’t have to go anywhere. If you are using the coral tube starting point, you are already in the biome, and your lifepod should also be in the biome. You have to head to the safe shallows next.
And you don’t need anything in this biome either, equipment-wise.

The safe shallows are in one of the safest places in the game. You can find 7 small wrecks in this biome, sandstone, and limestone outcrops. Although, you can mainly find sandstone outcrops in the caves of the biome.

The only two creatures that can damage you here are gasopods. If you get near them, they will excrete gas that can hurt you, but they don’t ever attack you; just if you get too close to them, they can hurt you, so be wary of them, and crash fish which you will find caves and will launch themselves at you and explode if you get close to them, but you can outrun them if you have a sea glide or grab them with a propulsion cannon.

Other than that, there is not much else to say about this biome; there are a few open spots you can make a base here as well if you choose to do that.

Now to reach the last location, you need to start from the coral tube one last and head southwest until you reach the sparse reef biome.

Bringing a sea moth with an MK1 depth module, a high capacity 02 tank, and a sea glide is recommended.

5. The sparse reef is the safest biome in Subnautica; no hostile creatures or creatures can harm you here. It’s also a pretty resource-rich biome, with plenty of space to build a base if you so choose.

There’s not too much to say about this biome, but the only thing that can damage you here are tiger plants, as they can shoot spines out that can deal a bit of damage, but you’ll only find them in caves and even then, it’s not like they rapid fire at you either, they shoot at you slow enough that it’s easy to dodge unless you aren’t paying attention.
