To block shots in the game, you first have to press the L1 button, and you will see that your player will crouch and block the puck, as shown in the image below.
You can also block the shots by doing a diving block. To do so, you have to press the L1 button and R1 button from the controller simultaneously, and if you are playing on Xbox, you have to press the LB and RB buttons simultaneously.
When you attempt a diving block, you will get penalties, so you need to make sure to have good spacing, and you will also have to spend a few minutes in the penalty box, as shown in the image below.
