You can do it via the Start menu, in-game (via menu), campaign and game-speed hotkeys, or changing speed in multiplayer matches or Xbox. Via Start Menu
- To access the game options through the start menu, click on the gear icon, and select Options.
- Next, navigate to the Game tab on the left side. Here, you can pick slow, casual, normal, or fast game speeds. Click Confirm to apply the new settings.

- During a match, you can change the game speed similarly by pressing the Escape key on your keyboard, opening the options menu, and selecting the Game tab.

Campaign & Gamespeed Hotkeys
- In a campaign scenario, the game speed might be fixed, but there’s another way. Switch to the Hotkeys tab, select Game Commands, and scroll down to find the Slow Down Game and Speed Up Game buttons.

Changing Speed in Multiplayer Matches or Xbox
- In multiplayer matches, the game speed is usually fixed, especially in ranked games. Xbox users need to press Y before each match to open game options and adjust the game speed there.

- For non-Xbox users, pressing F11 or your defined hotkey might display or undisplay the game speed.
Unlock 4x and 8x Gamespeed
- You can increase game speed further by accessing the properties menu of Age of Empires 2 in your Steam Library.
- Under launch options, type debug speeds.
