Recipe for Disaster is the 100th quest in Old School RuneScape. RFD serves as a sequel to the Cook’s Assistant quest. This quest consists of 10 sub quests. Recipe for Disaster starts off easy but as you make progress, the sub quests become harder and harder and only the most determined players are able to stay till the end. Being one of the most rewarding quests in Old School RuneScape, here is complete guide for completing the Recipe for Disasters quest and its sub quests.
Another Cook’s Quest
A very prestigious Lumbridge council meeting is held every Ten Years. For a hundred years, the chef’s family has been responsible for cooking the banquet for the occasion. During the first meeting, Franizzard Van Lumbcook, the cook’s ancestor prepared a dish so tempting, that he was offered the permanent position of Head chef, along with his descendants for life. Now the present Head Chef has pretty big shoes to fill and he can’t think of a recipe. He decides to go OG and recreate his ancestor’s recipe for the meeting but he is short on ingredients. Your objective in this quest is to help him gather all the ingredients and this will lead to you getting invited to The Feast, the next sub-quest.
The cook is going to give you 100 coins to buy all the ingredients and you can keep the change if you end up saving some coins.
Rewards for Completing the Quest:
- 1 Quest point
- The invitation to the feast of a lifetime!
Ingredients Required:
- An eye of newt
- Greenman’s ale
- Rotten Tomato
- Dirty blast
An eye of newt: You can buy this from Herblore Shops
Greenman’s ale is sold in Yanille at the Bar for 10 coins.
Rotten Tomato: Sold at the Duel Arena and Crates near Pillory Cages in Seer’s Village, Yanille or Varrock.
Dirty blast can be made by adding ashes to the fruit blast. You first need to pick up a cocktail shaker spawn from the cocktail bar situated in the north-west corner of 1st floor of Grand Tree. You can then buy 1 Pineapple, 2 Lemons and 1 Orange from Hudo. Once you have them, go over to Hackle Funch in the south-east corner to find a cocktail glass spawn. Mix the ingredients in the cocktail shaker and then use the cocktail glass. Use your knife to slice the lemons to garnish your cocktail and finally, add ashes to it to create your Dirty blast.
You can also obtain a Fruit Blast in exchange for your dig site exam certificates from the Curator Haig Halen in Varrock. You can then add ashes to it to create a Dirty Blast.
After gathering all these items, take them to the cook in Lumbridge Castle Kitchen and receive your invitation to The Feast.
The Feast
Go through the North to enter the doors to the banquet room to begin the feast. The table will be hosting the following members of the Lumbridge Counsil
- A Mountain Dwarf from White Wolf Mountain
- Osman from Al Kharid
- The goblin generals from Goblin Village
- Pirate Pete from Braindeath Island
- The Lumbridge Guide
- Evil Dave from Edgeville
- Skrach Uglogwee from the Feldip Hills
- Sir Amik Varze from Falador
- Awowogei from Ape Atoll
- Duke Horacio himself
- Gypsy Aris from Varrock, not present at the table but will arrive later.
When you enter the feast room, Duke Horacio will have left to investigate the strange box event and Osman will have been taken away by Evil Bob. Some time later, Culinaromancer will enter the room and start putting magic spells on everyone at the table. Just in time, Gypsy Aris will arrive and freeze in time everyone in the room except you.
The Gypsy explains that the Culinaromancer was a cook in Lumbridge a hundred years ago and had threatened the secret council with death, only to be countered by the Duke’s assistant, who managed to trap him in another dimension earning the position of Head Chef for life. This assistant was Franizzard Van Lumbcook, the cook’s ancestor.
She goes on to reveal that the current head chef apparently created a powerful food spell, releasing Culinaromancer from that dimension. Since you helped the Head Chef with the food, you need to right your wrong by saving the council.
To free each member of the council from Culinaromancer’s spell, they need to be fed their favorite food. With the help of Gypsy and the Cook, you can serve each council member their food and once free, Gypsy will transport them away to safety. Before attempting to free them, you first need to inspect them in order to remove the red label on their names in the quest log. Freeing each member earns you one Quest point and additional access to Culinaromancer’s chest. The Culinaromancer’s Chest is located in the Basement. It works as a bank and as a shop. You can buy various gloves and weapons as well as food items.
If you already don’t have a full-grown Cat, it’s a good idea to get a pet kitten at this point as it takes two and a half hours to grow, and is a requirement for freeing Evil Dave.
Freeing the Goblin Generals
Rewards for Completing the Quest:
- 1 Quest point
- 1,000 Cooking experience
- 1,000 Farming experience
- 1,000 Crafting experience
- Some access to the Culinaromancer’s Chest.
Ingredients Required:
- Bread
- An Orange
- A knife
- Dye (other than red, yellow, orange, or pink)
- Spice
- Fishing bait
- A bucket of water
- Charcoal
After inspecting the goblins in the dining room, you need to go to the Goblin Village located north of Falador. Find the building just south of the generals in goblen village and climb down the ladder. You will meet Mudknuckles there, a goblin cook. He will ask for some charcoal and you need to give him that. He will then tell you to get some Oranges that aren’t orange, some spicy maggots that aren’t bland and bread that isn’t crunchy.
To make the oranges, you need to slice then using a knife and then apply dye on them
Using spice on the fishing bait will make spicy maggots
Use a bucket of water to make the bread soggy and ‘not crunchy’
When you give all of these ingredients to Mudknuckles, he will make the “Slop of Compromise”. Take it back to the frozen goblin generals to complete the sub quest.
Freeing the Mountain dwarf
Rewards for Completing the Quest:
- 1 Quest point
- 1,000 Slayer experience
- 1,000 Cooking experience
- Additional access to the Culinaromancer’s Chest
Ingredients Required:
- Gloves (Ice gloves work best but other gloves will work too)
- About 320 coins (or 120 if you have the activated ring of charos)
- An Egg
- A bucket of milk
- Pot of Flour
- A bowl of water
- 4 Asgarnian ales
After inspecting the Mountain Dwarf, Go to Falador and talk to Kaylee in the Rising Sun Inn.
When you ask her about dwarves and ale, she will offer to tell you a secret recipe for Asgoldian ale in exchange for 200 coins. If you have a bar of chocolate, she will take that plus 50 coins. She will tell you to add gold to an Asgarnian ale to get an Asgoldian ale. You can buy four Asgarnian ales from her or go to the Toad and Chicken pub in Burthorpe to pick them up for free. You can then add a coin to each one to get Algoldian ale.
Next, you need to go to the White Wolf Mountain, where you will find Mountain Dwarf’s dad called the “Old Dwarf” in the bar area in the tunnel. When you ask him about his secret Dwarvean rock cake recipe, he will refuse but he will mention Rising Sun Inn.
That’s your cue to give him the Asgoldian ales which will get him drunk. He will then agree to make the cake for 100 coins. Give him milk, flour, egg and bowl of water. He will bake the cake and give it to you.
Put on your gloves on before taking the hot cake to avoid damaging your hands. If you don’t put them on, the cake will fall to the ground. The cake needs to cool down before the Mountain Dwarf can eat it. Putting ice gloves cools it down immediately. If you have other gloves, you need to kill an icefiend and use the icefiend to cool the cake down. Another option is to leave the cake in the bank for several hours to cool it down.
Once the cake has cooled down, take it to the Lumbridge castle and free the Mountain Dwarf to complete the sub-quest.

Walk sount-east towards the transportation symbol on your map. Once there, he will kick down a tree and you need to use your axe on it twice to turn it into a boat. He will then shoot an arrow to a tree on Karamja and ask you to go and cook a chompy there for good luck. If you don’t have any chompies, it’s a good idea to kill a couple of chomy birds before coming here.
You now have to travel to Karamja. If you have fairy ring tele, then go west towards the coastline and then north untill you find the tree with an arrow in it.
If you have travelled to Brimhaven, go over to the beach southwest of the Tai Bwo Wannai general store to find the tree with the arrow in it. The tree with the arrow is just north of Banisoch. The tree is marked with a transportation icon.
Make a fire and roast your chompy using your iron spit. After that, Rantz’s kids will come with the boat to take you with them.
Once you get back to Rantz, he will tell you to make a balloon toad to use as a bait for the jubbly bird. You need to go to the swamp and fill your bellows to use them on a toad. It is a good idea to catch multiple toads. You then have to mine the rocks near the Fairy Ring. You can also mine rocks on a spot next to Rantz’s cave. With the ball of wool in your inventory and the rock you just mined, inflate the bellows again with swamp gas, use these inflated bellows on the already inflated toad to get a balloon toad. The jubbly bird will appear soon after you drop the balloon toad east of the gnome glider or south of Rantz’s cave. You then have to kill the jubbly bird with your ogre bow, collect the carcass and take the meat to cook on Rantz’s ogre spit. Now go back to lumbridge castle to use the jubbly to free Skrach Uglogwee. To avoid having to do the whole thing again, take multiple jubblies with you.

First mix cream and milk, then add a pot of cornflour,a vanilla pod obtainable from Kharazi jungle, the egg of the evil chicken and finally cinnamon obtained via crushing a dramen branch. You then have to flambé it using a dragon.
A couple of important points to note here are you must talk to gypsy and the cook about freeing Sir Amik. This will unlock an option later in the quest. If you don’t talk to them, you will have to come back to do so. Secondly, the ingredients told by the cook can be collected in any order but must be combined in the order given above. Thirdly, do not start the Swan Song before completing this sub quest.
Now, start with mixing your cream and milk.
Grind raw sweetcorn in a windmill to make a pot of cornflour. Add it to the above mixture.
You should now travel to the south-west section of Kharazi Jungle and get a single Vanilla pod from the vanilla plants. Add it to the mixture.
Now, head to Dravnor Village to find The Wise Old Man. You will be given an option to ask him a question (this option will not be available if you didn’t talk to gypsy and the cook before), Select this option and ask him about strange beasts and then the Evil Chicken.

Now leave the lair through the portal located south of the dragons. After this, add the egg to the brulee and then grind your dramen branch using your pestle and mortar to make cinnamon. Add this to the mixture.
You should now put your ice gloves on (otherwise you will die) and rub the token to summon K’klik. Ask him to flambé your brulee.
Now go back to Lumbridge castle and give Sir Amik this brulee to save him.

You need three greegrees to complete this sub quest. To make a greegree, you need three monkey talismans and bones from a monkey guard, a ninja monkey and a zombie monkey. A Monkey talisman costs 1000 coins and can be purchased from a rune salesman on Ape Atoll. You are going to need a total of three monkey talismans. After purchasing the monkey talismans, you need to go to the prayer alter and kill a monkey guard to take its bones. Now, locate the bank icon on your mini map and go there to kill and collect the bones of one of the two ninja monkeys.
Once you have the bones, go to the south side of the island to enter the Ape Atoll Dungeon. There, you have to kill a Zombie monkey and collect its bones. Bring three talismans and three sets of bones to Zooknock and confirm that you want to make another greegree. You should repeat this three times to get three greegrees.
After getting the greegrees, go to the building on the eastern part of the island to ask the monkey form of Awowogei about his favorite food. He won’t tell you his favorite food but will mention Three Monkeys. You can find these monkeys in the Northwest corner of the temple.
Once there, talk to one of them. They will tell you that the king’s favorite food is Roasted Giant snake stuffed with sliced banana and monkey nut paste. You need a giant snake’s corpse, monkey nuts and a banana. The latter two can be purchased from Ape Atoll. Purchase a banana and monkey nuts and go to crash island. Freeing Evil Dave:

- The ability to catch hellrats
- The ability to have your cat fight Hell-Rat Behemoths
- 7,000 Cooking experience

She lives in a house on the west side of the bank. After talking to her, go down the trapdoor. Talk to Dave and ask him what he ate, he will tell you about a perfectly spicy evil stew.
Now, talk to his mother again and she will tell you that the Hellrats stole all the spices. You then have to hunt down hellrats. Every hellrat your cat catches, you get a spice containing 1 to 4 doses. Spices are represented by colors yellow, brown, orange and red. Your cat becomes a Hellcat when she catches 7 hellrats.
Once you have all the spices, you need to find out the right potency of each spice for the stew. This can be very lengthy and you need to be patient. You should start with 1 dose of one colored spice on a stew and let Evil Dave taste it. He will say something like One of the spices is correct, the rest are incorrect or its nothing like my stew. If one spice is correct, note down the potency and move to the next color. If none of them are correct, increase potency and try again. You can only add a maximum of 3 doses for each spice in the stew, hence the worst-case scenario is that you’ll need 9 bowls of stew and 6 doses of each color
