OSRS F2P Money Making Runescape Guide | Ways To Earn Gold Bars

Old School RuneScape features two game modes. Free to Play (F2P) and Pay to Play (P2P). Compared to Pay to Play, F2P has some limitations and several features are locked. Luckily, there are a lot of ways you can earn OSRS gold which significantly changes the experience of OSRS.

OSRS gold is very important in Old School RuneScape. Not only is it required for quests and buying new armor & gear, you can use it to buy almost anything in the game. OSRS features a marketplace called the Grand Exchange where you can buy and sell all the items in the game except for a few rare ones. The Grand Exchange is located west of Varrock and uses OSRS gold as its currency.

One thing to note is that if you are an ironman, you will be restricted from Grand Exchange and Trading.

You can make money in OSRS using many different ways. You can make money through combat, via resource gathering or use your crafting and smithing skills for production. In addition, you also find items on the ground that you can pick up.

Combat: One of the most popular ways to make money is to use your combat skills. The skills predominantly used are Defense, Attack, Strength, Hitpoints, Prayer and Magic. A great example is using these skills to kill cows and use cowhides to score gold.

Resource Gathering:  The resource gathering skills include fishing, Woodcutting and Mining. You can mine iron and cut oak logs to sell them for OSRS gold. While combat serves you best in the later stages of the game, Resource gathering is one of the more profitable methods if you are a beginner

Production: As mentioned before, you can use skills like crafting to turn Gold bars bought from GE into Gold bracelets to sell them for profit.

Items Spawned on Ground: Certain items spawn on the ground at a fixed location after a fixed interval. You can pick them up to get upgrades.

Free 2 Play Money Making Methods:

Killing Cows:

Cows are located in various locations throughout Lumbridge. They are especially found abundantly in north side of Lumbridge as well as the east side of the river. To get their cowhides, you need to buy a steel scimitar and steel armor from the Grand exchange. You need 15 in each your Defence, Attack and Strength in order to be able to kill them. A very high demand item, each cowhide can be sold for 150 OSRS gold. And since you can also train with them to improve your skills, it’s really a win-win.

One thing to note is that if you are a beginner, you won’t be able to kill anything very profitable since your combat level is very low. As you progress through the game, your combat level goes up and you are able to make much more money.

Tanning Cowhides

You can buy some cowhide from the Grand Exchange and get them tanned to be sold for profit. To tan cows, you need to have 7 quest points or a playtime of 24 hours in addition to some gold coins

You can use Al Kharid Tannery located near the bank in north west. You can pay 1 gold coin to turn them into soft leather or 3 to turn them into hard leather.

Mining Iron ore

Mining iron ore is one the best money-making methods as you also gain a lot of experience points per hour in addition to gold. All you need is Level 15 mining and a pickaxe in order to get started. Mining is very straightforward, just wield the pickaxe and click on the ores. The two spots abundant in iron ore are South east Varrock mine and South west Varrock mine.

Your effectiveness depends on your mining level and your pickaxe. Your mining level increases with time and at Level 41, you can get a rune Pickaxe which is the best one in F2P. One thing to keep in mind is that as your mining level increases, iron ore becomes less profitable and you should look towards mining Gold or Runite.

Crafting Gold Amulets

Crafting gold amulets requires level 8 Crafting. You can buy gold bars and amulet mould from the Grand Exchange and go to the furnace in edgeville. Gold amulet is very useful among players wanting to level up their magic using its alchemy properties and is thus always high in demand.

Picking up Ashes

Grand exchange always has some ashes that people leave behind after their Firemaking training. You can pick them up and use them to get gold.

Catching Lobsters

To catch lobsters, you need level 40 fishing. You need a Lobster pot and some OSRS gold to catch lobsters which can be found at Musa Point located at the Northeastern edge of Karamja. Once you have the lobsters, you can teleport to Falador (Level 36 Magic Required) and bank the lobsters there. A much quicker but slightly less profitable alternative is to go back to Port Sarim by boat and deposit the Lobsters in a deposit box there.

Cutting Oak logs

Oak trees are situated very close to the bank making it one of the most efficient ways of making money. You can start as soon as you get to Level 15 Woodcutting. A great location to cut oak trees is right next to Draynor Village bank. Although still profitable with even a steel axe, it is recommended to have the highest possible axe.

Killing Dark Wizard

Just as you go a little south from where you cut Oak trees, you can find Dark Wizards in Draynor Village.

Dark Wizards drop runes including Nature Rune and Black Robes. In addition to earning gold, you can also train your Range skill using this method. You can start from level 20 range and go all the way up to 30. You should buy an Amulet of strength and Amulet of power from the Grand Exchange and also carry the highest level of shortbow.

Telegrabing Wines of Zamorak

You need to have a Zamorak monk top, a Zamorak monk bottom, Law runes and Staff of air to complete this. Head north from Falador to enter the Chaos Temple.

The tower has 2 levels and you need to have a total level 500 in order to access the top level. Once you get there, you only need level 33 magic to cast the spell of Telekinetic grab. The bottom level is heavily guarded and the Monk will attack you every time you cast the spell. You should once cast the telekinetic grab spell at the entrance of the temple and quickly go up to the top floor to cast the spell again on the Wine of Zamorak on the table. You can repeat this until your inventory is full and then cast the Falador teleport (level 37 magic required) to deposit items in the bank.

Collecting Anti-dragon shield

You need to complete all the quests including the Dragon Slayer quest to collect the Anti-dragon Shield. You should go to Oziach’s building located in Edgeville to collect all the Anti-dragon Shields. Once you have them, you can deposit them in the bank.

Filling bucket of water

You don’t need anything besides buckets which can be purchased at any general store in the game or at the Grand Exchange. You need to go to the PVP world in Lumbridge castle. There you will have the bank closest to the fountain.

Collecting Nature Runes

Follow the route mentioned in the map to go to nature runes. You should take a Staff of air and law runes to this location. Once there, click on the spell book icon and select telekinetic grab spell, then select nature runes to cast the spell. It is a good idea to walk instead of running to conserve energy as this is a PVP zone and is in deep Wilderness.

Ogress Warriors

In addition to scoring gold, you can increase you combat level by fighting ogress warriors. You first need to start The Corsair Curse quest. Ogres can be found in the dungeon in the Corsair Cove forest. To get to Corsair cove, you should go to Rimmington to take the ship located at west of the POH Portal. When you get to corsair cove, get off the boat and walk towards the west until you reach the dungeon.

In addition to ogress warriors, you have to watch out for Ogres Shamans. There are a lot of safe spots inside the dungeon as shown below.

While being in the safe spot, you should use magic and ranged attacks on ogress warriors. They drop a lot of runes and rune items. You can collect them to exchange them with OSRS gold.

Cooking Raw Tunas

You can collect tunas at the Al-Kharid Bank. After collecting them, you should go the range in Al-Kharid located nearby. Click on the range and it will ask you how many tunas do you want to cook? Click “all” and all tunas in your inventory will be cooked. You can then go back to the bank to get more tunas.

It is recommended to have a cooking level of 63 and above because you can burn the tunas if you have low cooking experience.

Shop Selling

In OSRS, you can buy items in bulk and then sell them for a profit at one of the many specialty stores. One important thing to note here is to buy good items that are worth less than the high alch value.

Making Pizzas

Pizzas take longer to cook than standard cooking but they are the most profitable. You can use a pot of flour and a bucket of water along with cheese and tomato to make an uncooked pizza. You can also add meat or Anchovy to increase your profit. It is a good idea to start making pizzas after you get to cooking level 68 as this significantly reduces your chances of burning the pizza.

Smithing Rune Plateskirt/Rune Platelegs/Rune Swords

It is one of the highest requirement money making methods and the profits are also one of the highest. You need level 99 Smithing and a large amount of OSRS gold to start.

Cutting Yew Trees

Yew trees are the most valuable logs in Free 2 Play mode. There are two locations great for cutting Yew Trees. The first location is behind the Varrock castle and the second location is in a destroyed building in Edgeville. You need a woodcutting level 60 to start but level 90 gets you a lot more profit.

Arriving at the yew tree, just click on the tree. When the inventory is full go to the bank and return.

Mining Runite Ore

Runite ore can be found in the Lava Maze as shown below.

You need a mining level of 85 to unlock Runite Ore. To mine it, use Rune Pickaxe. When your inventory is full, you should go down at level 20 wilderness and then teleport to a safe zone.

Mining Adamant

You can mine adamant at level 70. There are two locations where you can mine adamant. One is near the Draynor Village bank at the Lumbridge swap south-west mine and the other is the Al-Kharid mine near Al-Kharid Bank.

Obor

To kill the boss named Obor, you first need to kill a regular Hill giant to get a Giant key. Obor uses melee and Ranged attacks and it is a good idea to equip yourself with food and strength potion before fighting him. He drops many high value runes in addition to the Hill Giant Club which can be exchanged for OSRS gold.

Making Iron Bars

When you reach level 15 smithing, Smelting Iron Ore is unlocked. You can then go to a furnace to use a Ring of Forging on it to get an iron bar. The furnace located closest to a bank is the Edgeville Furnace.

Making Silver Bars

At level 20 smithing, you can make silver bars which you can exchange for OSRS gold.

Sapphire Rings

Sapphire Ring is the most profitable jewelry in OSRS and you can make them using your crafting skills.

Emerald Rings

You can unlock Emerald Rings at level 27 Crafting which you can exchange for OSRS gold.
